A service award nominee must meet the following criteria:
This service award nominee has given active and significant individual service to the profession at the district and state level-IAHPERD.
This service award nominee has made contributions to children, adolescents and/or adults in the school and/or community.
This service award nominee is a current IAHPERD member.
This service award nominee has had the last five years in continuous membership in IAHPERD.

Honor Award
Deadline: March 1 of current year
(Not more than three may be given in a year)
An honor award nominee must meet the following criteria:
This honor award nominee has been an active member of IAHPERD for a minimum of ten years and has made significant contributions to the organization. (It is interpreted that the last five years shall have been with continuous membership.)
This honor award nominee has been active in the profession for fifteen years. A minimum of ten years of service should have been in the State of Illinois and is currently active in the profession.
This honor award nominee has secured at least a master's degree in his/her field and demonstrated evidence of professional growth.
This honor award nominee has been actively involved beyond just membership in other professional organizations such as (ILSHA, NEA, IEA, IAHPERD, NAPEHE).
This honor award nominee has served IAHPERD in a variety of leadership capacities.
This honor award nominee has contributed significantly to conferences or conventions and programs at the IAHPERD state level.
This honor award nominee has contributed to professional literature through writing or co-authoring relevant articles.

Dr. Arthur Steinhaus Professional Associate
A Dr. Arthur Steinhaus Professional Associate Award nominee meets the following criteria:
- An individual who has served the Association (State, District, National level)
- Any individual outside the special fields of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; whether in closely allied fields or not, may be given a special citation for outstanding service or contributions to IAHPERD or to the profession in general.

Representative Sharon Chung
Pop Horton Award
Clifford "Pop" Horton was one of the "founding fathers" of the Illinois State Association and was very helpful in its formation. He also aided members of the committee who were responsible for writing the first history of the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, by supplying data and verifying important and obscure facts. Dr. Horton served on many committees including a writing of the constitution in 1932 – 33. Clifford "Pop" Horton served the Association as president in 1950-51. He received the Honorary Life Membership in 1961.
Dr. Horton served as Chair of the Men's Physical Education Department at Illinois State University in 1938 and Director of the Division of Health and Physical Education at ISU in 1953. He retired from ISU in 1961.
This award is a reflection of the true spirit of the individual for whom the award is named through a professional life which indicates dedication, leadership, service and accomplishments. This individual has had twenty-five years of continuous service and leadership in IAHPERD.
